What does it mean today to live the Adorer charism in contexts marked by vulnerability and inequality? From the Sisters Adorers community in the Dominican Republic, Sr. Albeana reflects on creative fidelity as a way to embody the mission between Adoration and Liberation in today’s reality.
Creative fidelity: a key for the present
“Fidelity is not repetition, but recreating the charism with love in every time and in every reality.”
We are living in a time that calls for new responses with deep roots. The Adorers charism, born from the Eucharistic heart to heal the wounds of women whose dignity and rights have been violated, is not a museum piece: it is a fire that needs to be kept alive.
Adoration and Liberation: the heart of the charism
Today, in the Congregation, it continues to breathe through two lungs: Adoration and Liberation.
Before the Blessed Sacrament, we discover the face of Christ in every woman broken by trafficking, prostitution, violence, or exclusion. And from that contemplation arises the urgency to go out, to welcome, and to restore dignity.
That is why the question that moves us is not “What did we do yesterday?”, but:
“What is God asking of us today?”
Responding today requires creative fidelity. Faithful, because we do not invent a different charism each decade: the gift remains the same—to adore Christ and to liberate His beloved daughters. Creative, because the faces of slavery change, and so do the contexts.
New realities, new responses
For example, in the Dominican Republic, we see it in forced migration, in adolescents caught in digital networks, in single mothers without opportunities, and in young women who have lost a sense of their worth.
Adoration does not enclose us: it educates our way of seeing.
On our knees, we learn to see as God sees.
And when we learn to see in this way, we cannot remain still.
When the Eucharist becomes life
The Eucharist becomes the street.
It takes shape in listening centres, shelter homes, spaces for rest, vocational training workshops, and life projects.
It is also present in new risk environments: digital accompaniment on social media, platforms where women are recruited or exploited, confidential helplines via WhatsApp or chat, and prevention and awareness campaigns.
A shared and networked mission
The world cries out and also dreams. For this reason, our “yes” must speak the language of this continent: close, joyful, and incarnated.
Creative fidelity to the charism today means using current tools without diluting the treasure we have received.
It means building networks with other congregations, lay people, and institutions, because no one brings liberation alone.
It means that night Adoration sustains prophetic witness during the day; that tenderness does not weaken firmness; and that prayer nourishes sustainable projects that restore real autonomy to women.
A call for today: to discern and recreate
The world does not need copies: it needs authentic Sisters Adorers, with feet in the mud and hearts anchored in Jesus in the Eucharist.
From the Sisters Adorers, this is the proposal: to live the charism today with boldness and fidelity.
May each community and each sister ask:
“What is God asking of us today, here, with these women and in this reality?”
May we review our projects and presences with a clear criterion:
Adoration that liberates, and Liberation that springs from Adoration.
May we not be afraid to close what no longer responds, in order to open new paths where the charism can breathe.
May we work in shared mission with lay people of the Adorer Family and in networks with other institutions and congregations.
May we form new generations in discernment and boldness, leaving space for the Spirit to surprise us, being strong and courageous women.
Fidelity is not repetition: it is love made new each morning. And the Adorer charism, lived in this way, continues to have a decisive word for the Congregation.
What is God asking of us today?
On our knees before Him and standing before the wounded and vulnerable woman—sometimes leading, sometimes supporting, sometimes lifting up, and sometimes helping her stand firm.
With hearts burning in the Eucharist and hands given over to her Liberation.
Thus, in creative fidelity.
Today, in every place where we are present, the Adorer charism continues to be a living response, renewed wherever a woman needs to recognise her dignity and recover her freedom.
