The visit to get to know the reality of the Province of Kolkata, led by Sister Pilar Casas, Superior General of the Sisters Adorers, and Lissiamma Thuruthikara, Consultant of the General Government, concluded on February 10, 2025, and presented a significant milestone: the inauguration of a new house in Nepal.
What Is a Knowledge Visit or fraternel visit?
A knowledge visit is an itinerary carried out by the Sisters of the General Government to get to know and strengthen ties with the communities, projects, and educational canters of the Congregation. Currently, the Sisters Adorers have four Provinces (Europe-Africa, America, Kolkata, and Mumbai) and one delegation (Japan), with a presence in 24 countries.

Journey Through the Province of Kolkata
During the trip, which began on January 28, Sister Pilar and Sister Lissiamma visited eight of the fourteen communities in the Province of Kolkata, which includes India and Nepal. They spent time with the sisters, women, children, and beneficiaries of the Social Work, as well as lay members of the Adorers’ Family.
In India, they visited the Provincial House on Christopher Road, the Nazareth Villa residence for university students, the Kharagpur home for children at risk, and the Liluah shelter home for women, victims of trafficking. They also travelled to Puri, the first presence of the Sisters Adorers in India, where they visited the Blessed Sacrament Higher Secondary School. Their journey continued in Nalgonda, where they met the community of elderly and sick sisters, and in Hyderabad, where they visited another home for children at risk. Finally, in Nepal, they visited the community of Nepal Chelli Asha Kiran in Ittabhatta.
One of the most significant moments of the visit was the blessing and inauguration of the new house of the Sisters Adorers’ community in Nepal. For the past ten years, the sisters had been living in a rented house while carrying out the Congregational mission of Adoration and Liberation. Now, at last, they have a place of their own.
A Refuge of Hope in Nepal: Training and Protection for Vulnerable Young Women
In Nepal, many of the women served by our Social Work Projects are young adolescents who have dropped out of school and, because of their vulnerability, become an easy target for trafficking networks. They are often lured with false promises of employment or marriage and end up in exploitative situations, such as forced labour on tea plantations or human trafficking.
Through the Adorers’ project in this country, we offer vocational training programs that allow them to access dignified and safe job opportunities. In addition to receiving this training, they are sensitized to the dangers of human trafficking and accompanied in a process of empowerment, which allows them to rebuild their lives with autonomy and security.
The goal is to protect, motivate, and prepare them for a future with more opportunities, offering them comprehensive support so they can regain confidence in themselves and build a path free from violence and exploitation.
Blessing and Inauguration of the New House in Nepal
On February 6, upon arriving at the community in Ittabhatta, Sr. Pilar and Sr. Lissiamma received a warm Nepali-style welcome. Provincial Superior Sr. Lissiamma Joseph, along with the sisters from the community, as well as those from Siliguri and Bandel, presented them with the traditional Khada, a ceremonial scarf symbolizing respect and blessing.
On February 7, the inauguration was celebrated with an emotional event. The young women from the mission welcomed the visitors once again with Khada, Arati, and Tika, a traditional blessing ritual.
Later, they invited Sr. Pilar Casas to cut the ribbon and officially open this new stage for the community. The ceremony took place in the presence of benefactors, our women, religious sisters, and local priests, including Father Pious Perumana, Vicar of Nepal. Also in attendance were Sisters Adorers from Punjab, along with religious sisters from other congregations, as well as Jesuit and Salesian priests, who collaborate in the mission.
After Holy Communion, Father Pious Perumana, accompanied by the Sisters Adorers and the priests present, went to the chapel to bless the Tabernacle and place the Blessed Sacrament inside. Once the prayers were completed, Sr.Pilar Casas closed the Tabernacle, and everyone returned to the hall to continue the Eucharistic celebration.
Following the Mass, the young women from the mission performed a cultural program at the centre, expressing their gratitude and joy for this new house that will help them achieve better professional opportunities. Later, everyone shared a festive meal, celebrating together in a spirit of fraternity and hope.
Today, with this new house, the Sisters Adorers in Nepal begin a new chapter in their mission. A long-awaited dream has become a reality, bringing with it the opportunity to offer many young women a future filled with hope, dignity, and new opportunities.
