On January 28, 2025, Sisters Pilar Casas, Superior General of the Adorers, and Lissiamma Thuruthikara, General Government Consultant, began a fraternal visit to the Province of Kolkata, which will extend until February 10, 2025.
These visits are part of the General Government’s plan to gain first-hand insight into the realities of the different Provinces and Delegations. They provide a valuable opportunity for the General Government sisters to experience the life of the Adorers and the work carried out with women in situations of prostitution, trafficking, and other forms of violence, alongside the laypeople who are part of the Adoratrices family in each of the 24 countries where we are present.
A Journey Through the Province of Kolkata
The Province of Kolkata consists of 14 communities spread across India and Nepal, with a total of 67 resident sisters and 8 missionaries working in other countries. During this visit, Sr. Pilar and Sr. Lissiamma will visit 8 of the 14 communities to deepen their understanding of the mission, strengthen fraternal bonds, and share experiences with the sisters.
Meeting at the Puri Community
The General Government sisters were welcomed at Bhubaneswar Airport, India, by Sr. María Fernández, Superior of the Daringabadi community, who accompanied them to the Puri community.
There, Sr. Pilar and Sr. Lissiamma were greeted with a warm welcome: a bouquet of flowers presented by Sisters Mary Rose and Elsamma. Holding lit candles, they proceeded to the chapel for a moment of prayer with the Lord. Later, they spent time in fraternity, enjoying a cup of tea with the community.
In the afternoon, a reflection meeting was held, addressing key aspects of the life of the Adorers in Puri and their current apostolate in the school. The discussion focused on the various ways in which the mission of Adoration and Liberation is carried out, reaffirming the commitment to education and social transformation.
Additionally, Sr. Pilar visited the community’s school, where she had the opportunity to interact with teachers and students, enriching the exchange and strengthening mutual understanding.
“It was a joy for all of us to welcome Sr. Pilar and Sr. Lissiamma into our home, which was the first Adoratrices community in India. We could see the great joy and enthusiasm on Sr. Pilar’s face as she saw the first tabernacle in India and met all of us and the work we do in this city. She made us feel that we have become a living tabernacle in this place, and she was very happy to see so many children coming to our institution to receive an education. Sr. Pilar has truly built a bond with us, and we are very happy and fulfilled by this fraternal visit,” shared Sr. Pramila from the Puri community about the experience.
