Strengthening the Adorers’ Mission: The General Government of Adorers has undertaken a series of visits to the Province of Europe-Africa to listen, accompany and renew the charism and mission in each community.
These visits of the General Government aim to get to know the reality of each community, to accompany them in their work and to foster greater cohesion in the mission shared by the whole Adorers Family.
The current journey (September 18, 2024, to December 4, 2024) of Sister Consultors Carmen Pascual and Gabriela Valot is proving to be a profoundly significant experience for the Province of Europe-Africa. Each encounter is a living demonstration that the Adorers’ charism transcends borders.
These trips strengthen the mission, but, above all, they weave family ties, making each community, from the countries of Africa to those of Europe, feel the close support of the General Government. A gesture that renews hope, strengthens fraternity and reminds us that we walk together, as one family, throughout the world.
The Province of Europe-Africa (formed by Spain, Italy, Portugal, United Kingdom, Morocco, Togo, Cape Verde and France) is very diverse and dynamic, a key aspect for the interaction between the local sisters and the government team, who can closely observe the reality of the apostolic work that is carried out in the different cities they visit.
The Adorers Family in these countries accompanies vulnerable women in their respective processes of liberation: those who have experienced prostitution, trafficking and other forms of violence. Through its Social Work, the Adorers wish to bring hope and life to those who need it most, in contexts that demand audacity and dedication.
Cordoba, gratitude for a global mission of hope
One of the highlights of this series of visits took place in Cordoba, Spain. Sister Aurelia shared a moving testimony about what this experience has meant for her community:
“As pilgrims on the way towards that horizon, which is our dream, to be living communities, in Mission, walking in hope, our General Government designed a strategic plan with the desire to care for and accompany the communities to be generators of life, fraternity and hope in fidelity to the Adorer charism today”.
For her, the presence of the Sisters Consultants was not only a profound gesture of closeness, but “a beautiful experience that makes it more real that we feel, we are an Adorer family spread throughout the world”.
The Sister Consultants shared time with “the community, the team and some of the volunteers who were present in the house, we shared moments of dialogue about our life, mission, hopes, difficulties, fears…etc.”, says Aurelia.
As part of the visit, the sisters of the General Government were also offered the opportunity to connect with the rich history and culture of Cordoba by visiting the Mosque-Cathedral and other emblematic areas of the city. In addition, the women and babies of the ‘Fuente de Vida’ project brought a dose of hope and simplicity to the meeting, reflecting the apostolic work that Adorers carry out on behalf of these women in the Spanish city.
In concluding her testimony, Aurelia expressed her gratitude: “These visits remind us that we are not alone, we are part of something bigger: a global mission of hope. Together, we continue to walk in faith, building a future full of life and hope”.
Opportunity, encounter and knowledge in Ceuta
From Ceuta, also in Spain, Sister Ana defines the visit of the General Government with 3 words: opportunity, encounter and knowledge.
“’Opportunity’ to get to know each other, to get to know the sisters who did not know each other, to get to know other sisters and other congregational contexts of which we hear little through letters and when sisters from other places come, we can speak more concretely. Encounter’ because we meet again with sisters, and it is always good to see each other again and to create new spaces. Meeting with sisters is always a new space and we realized that it was a space for meeting and, above all, for getting to know each other. The first word that came up among all of us in the community was ‘knowledge’. For all of us it was ‘knowledge’: to discover Ceuta, to understand Ceuta, to see the enclave of what Ceuta means, to locate the house, the city”.
These visits remind us that, united in mission and hope, we continue to build a future full of life and hope for those who need it most, reaffirming our identity as an Adorer Family.
