Sr. Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee as Adorer in Mumbai

On January 14, 2025, the Mumbai Province celebrated with great joy the Golden Jubilee of Sister Elizabeth Valiaveetil’s first religious profession as Adorer. This event was attended by the Provincial Superior of Mumbai, Sr. Rincy Sebastian, her consultors, sisters from different communities, families, friends, lay people and benefactors of the Adorers in Marol.

It was a day full of gratitude and emotion, a reflection of Sr. Elizabeth’s faithfulness and the transforming impact of the Adorers’ mission in the lives of so many people she has dealt with over the years.

What is the Golden Jubilee of Religious Profession?

The Golden Jubilee of Religious Profession marks 50 years of total dedication to God and to the mission of a religious congregation. In the case of the Adorers, this commitment is lived out through the charism of Adoration and Liberation, accompanying women in their process of Liberation from contexts of prostitution, human trafficking and other forms of violence.

This anniversary is a moment of thanksgiving, recognising the impact of a whole life consecrated to God and to the mission entrusted to them. Celebrations usually include a Eucharist of Thanksgiving and a festive gathering with family, friends and community members.

A testimony of fidelity and love

Celebrating 50 years of consecrated life is not only a personal milestone, but also an inspiration for the Church and for society. Sr Elizabeth’s life reminds us that love, faith and service can help transform the world around us.

Who is Sr Elizabeth?

Sr Elizabeth Valiaveetil, originally from Kerala and daughter of Chacko and Anna, is the second of seven siblings. Her consecrated life in the Congregation of Adorers began in Puri, Orissa, where she made her first religious profession on February 2, 1975.

After taking her final vows, Sr. Elizabeth assumed many responsibilities within the Congregation. She has always been noted for her skill in tailoring, a speciality which she perfected in a TTC in tailoring from Bombay to become a teacher. Not only has she mastered this discipline, but she has shared it with young women as a tutor in tailoring and secretarial work in various formation centres.

As they celebrate their Golden Jubilee of Religious Profession, we highlight their witness of faith, hope and charity, and give thanks for their life dedicated to the service of the most vulnerable women.

The Golden Jubilee Solemn Eucharist was presided over by Fr. Victor Martis, SAC, parish priest of Vincent Pallotti Church, Marol, Mumbai. It was attended by many people who knew Sr. Elizabeth from her early days in Marol. All these people celebrated the life of our sister and the blessings of God received.

Deacon Ivan preached a very moving homily in which he praised Sr. Elizabeth for her humility, sacrifice and dedication. The reception was held at the Navajyothi children’s home where joy, love, and dance were present.

A special thanks to Sr. Elizabeth

Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee is a living testimony to God’s faithfulness. Her life reflects the Adorers charism, bringing hope and liberation to women in difficult situations.

On this special anniversary, we express our gratitude and pray that her example will continue to be an inspiration to the Adorers Family and to all who know of her work.

Thank you, Sr. Elizabeth, for 50 years of dedication and love!
