Canonical Visit in the Province of Kolkata (2025–2026) | Sisters Adorers

Between November 2025 and the first week of March 2026, the canonical visit in the Province of Kolkata of the Sisters Adorers was carried out by Sister Lissiamma Joseph, Provincial Superior.

Although the itinerary began as planned, some unforeseen circumstances made it necessary to reorganize the schedule in certain communities. Nevertheless, the visit was successfully completed, reaching all the presences of the Province.

A process lived from November 2025 to March 2026

The canonical visit in the Province of Kolkata unfolded as a true journey of accompaniment. Each community received the close presence of the Provincial Superior for several days, fostering spaces of encounter, listening, and discernment.

In addition, these moments made it possible to strengthen community bonds and renew commitment to the shared mission.

What is a canonical visit in Religious Life?

A canonical visit is a practice proper to Religious Life that can be carried out at the congregational level—by the General Government—or, as in this case, by the Provincial Government. It is an official visit that the Superior and the Councillors—General or Provincial—make to the communities and sisters of the whole Congregation or of their Province, in accordance with Canon Law and the Constitutions.

In this sense, its purpose is clear: to care for spiritual life, strengthen the apostolic mission, and safeguard community life. Likewise, it makes it possible to review the apostolic works and accompany each sister on her vocational journey.

The Province of Kolkata of the Sisters Adorers

The Province of Kolkata of the Sisters Adorers has 14 communities distributed across different territories. These presences are located in West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, New Delhi, Punjab, and also in Nepal.

This diversity of contexts enriches the mission of the Congregation and reflects its commitment to the reality of each place.

A journey in harmony with the 31st General Chapter

The visit was carried out in harmony with the motto of the 31st General Chapter: “Sisters Adorers, pilgrims of hope, listening to the Spirit, embracing reality with an open heart and being joyful in mission.”

Therefore, each encounter was lived as a time of grace, where listening to the Spirit and openness to reality set the rhythm of the visit.

A renewed impulse for life and mission

The days shared in each community—usually three—were moments of grace, renewal, and revitalization of life and mission. Through community meetings, personal dialogue with each sister, and review of the apostolic works, fraternal communion and apostolic dynamism were strengthened.

In short, the canonical visit in the Province of Kolkata has been an opportunity to grow in unity, renew hope, and continue to foster the mission.

We give thanks for Sister Lissiamma Joseph’s generous service to the Congregation and for this visit lived in closeness, listening, and fraternity in each community.
