Canonical Visit 2026 in the Province of Mumbai | Sisters Adorers

The sisters of the Province of Mumbai received the canonical visit of the Provincial Superior of Mumbai, Sr. Rincy Sebastian, which took place from 13 January to 7 March 2026.

This gesture is part of the life of the Congregation and aims to accompany communities, strengthen the shared mission, and care for the lived experience of the charism.

Canonical visits, carried out periodically according to our Constitutions, are a key moment of encounter, listening, and discernment. Through them, the Superior promotes fraternal life, encourages the sisters in their mission, and strengthens the lived experience of faith in each community.

The Province of Mumbai has 14 communities: 12 in India and 2 in the Philippines.

Welcome and beginning of the canonical visit in the Province of Mumbai

The visit began on 13 January with a warm welcome from the different communities of the Province of Mumbai, who received the Provincial Superior with expressions rooted in their culture. The sisters gathered in carefully prepared chapels to place this time under God’s blessing.

Throughout the different stages, moments of prayer and thanksgiving were lived, asking for the guidance of the Holy Spirit during the entire canonical visit. As a sign of hope and of God’s presence, Sr. Rincy lit the traditional lamp, a gesture deeply meaningful in the local culture.

“Communities living the mission with joy”

The motto of the canonical visit was “Communities living the mission with joy,” an invitation to deepen the charism in everyday life.

During the meetings, Sr. Rincy proposed a path of reflection based on appreciative inquiry, structured in four steps: discover, dream, design, and deliver.

In the “discover” phase, the sisters deepened their experience of the charism, recognising how Eucharistic Adoration, liberating love, community life, the courage to go where it is most needed, and trust in the Holy Spirit have shaped the charism of Adoration and Liberation from its origins to the present day.

Today, our charism remains alive because the women we accompany feel seen and respected, communities live together with joy, Adoration is translated into service, and small gestures become moments of Liberation.

The mission in response to the reality of women today

One of the central moments was the space dedicated to “dreaming,” listening to God’s call in the current context. In this sense, reflection focused on the realities affecting women today: human trafficking, exploitation, violence, migration, exclusion, and loneliness.

In the light of the model of Saint Maria Micaela, the sisters were invited to imagine how to respond today to these situations: being present in new peripheries, listening deeply, creating safe spaces, and trusting in the transformative capacity of women.

The communities also shared their own dreams: to be spaces of prayer, welcome, service, joy, respect, and hope, rooted in the Adoration of Jesus in the Eucharist.

Community life and mission in the canonical visit

In the “design” stage, fraternal life was deepened, placing the Eucharist at the centre, as our foundress did. Through the image of the potter, inspired by the Book of Jeremiah, the importance of allowing God to shape us was highlighted. Sr. Rincy encouraged cultivating “seeds of the Eucharist” in each person’s life in order to build communities in communion, shared mission, and formation.

It was also recalled that the houses of the Congregation are called to be spaces of evangelisation, welcome, and healing, where women feel safe, respected, and dignified.

Encounter, accompaniment, and presence in the communities

Throughout the canonical visit, the Provincial Superior visited the different communities, projects, and apostolic works. She also held meetings with local bishops and parish priests and participated in the blessing of the new centre in the Ángeles community in the Philippines.

In a special way, she met personally with each of the sisters, offering accompaniment and guidance to continue living the charism with fidelity.

A mission strengthened in community

The canonical visit of the Provincial Superior of Mumbai has been a time of renewal for the communities, which have been able to deepen their identity and mission. These experiences reflect how, as a Congregation, we continue walking together, caring for community life and strengthening our response to the realities of the most vulnerable women through the charism of the Sisters Adorers.
