Adorers in the Canary Islands: Medal of Merit from the Cathedral of Las Palmas

With deep joy, we share that the presence of the Adorers in the Canary Islands (Spain) has been recognized with the Medal of Merit from the Cathedral of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria — a gesture that honors more than a century of service to the Church and to women in vulnerable situations on the island.

The award was received on November 26, 2025, by Adorer Sister Arancha Vilar on behalf of the entire community.

This medal comes within the framework of Jubilee 2025 as a sign of hope and gratitude for the journey shared with so many women over more than 100 years.

The award ceremony was attended by Bishop José Mazuelos, Auxiliary Bishop Cristóbal Déniz, Dean of the Cathedral José Lavandera, and several members of the Cathedral Chapter. It was hosted by Juan José Laforet.

Since 1915: a presence of support and accompaniment

The Congregation of the Sisters Adorers, Handmaids of the Blessed Sacrament and of Charity arrived in the Canary Islands in 1915, beginning a stable presence at the service of young women in vulnerable situations. For more than a century, the sisters have offered a home — a place of support, welcome, and comprehensive accompaniment — working alongside the diocese and various social organizations.

This recognition highlights a long history of commitment and closeness, lived out with the discretion and dedication that characterize the Adorer charism. Over all these years, the sisters have dedicated their lives to walking alongside women who rediscovered their dignity and looked again to the future with hope.

An award that shines light on the mission

The Medal of Merit recognizes the social, educational, and pastoral work that the Sisters Adorers have carried out in the diocese in collaboration with ecclesial institutions, professionals, volunteers, and civil entities committed to justice and human dignity.

For the Congregation, this gesture is an invitation to continue responding with joy and faithfulness to the charism of Eucharistic Adoration and the Liberation of women in situations of prostitution, human trafficking, and other forms of violence.

Thanksgiving

This recognition honors the sisters who have sustained the Adorer mission and charism to this day with discretion and commitment; the women who have approached our projects; and all the people who walk with the Adorer Family in the Canary Islands.

In this Jubilee, we renew our thanksgiving for the Medal of Merit, received as a sign of ecclesial communion and an encouragement to continue building spaces of dignity, justice, and Liberation wherever we are present.
