Pilar Casas, Superior General of the Sisters Adorers, Handmaids of the Blessed Sacrament and of Charity, together with the sisters of the General Government made their first visit to Portugal from the 23rd to the 27th of May 2024.

On this trip, our Superior General has been accompanied by Sister. Rosaura Patiño, Vicar General, Sister. Carmen Pascual, General Secretary, and Sister. Gabriela Valot, General Government Consultant.

Within the framework of the Assembly of the Iberian Constellation of Superiors General, held in Fatima on the 24th and 25th May, in which Sr. Pilar Casas participated, they all travelled to the Portuguese cities with an Adorers presence and to Orense (Spain).

Visit to Adorers’ apostolic actions and communities in Portugal

Portugal is one of the 7 countries that form part of the Province of Europe-Africa (Spain, Italy, United Kingdom, Morocco, Cape Verde and Togo are the rest) of the Adorers and has a total of 14 sisters.

From the 23rd to the 27th of May the sisters of the General Government undertook a visit to get to know the three Portuguese communities of Lisbon, Coimbra and Braga, as well as the Adorers’ projects. The apostolic action in Portugal is carried out by the Mother Sacramento Foundation through two care centres: Lisbon, with the ‘Jorbalán Insertion Community’ for women in a situation of special vulnerability with or without children; and Coimbra, through territorial attention to women in prostitution environments in workshops, personalized accompaniment and street unit. The Braga community is a community of older sisters.

On the 27th, they were in Orense, sharing a meal and the joy of meeting the sisters of the community present in that city.

In addition to the sisters, both in Portugal and in Orense, they met with the respective technical teams of the Adorers’ projects.

Visits of knowledge

Pilar Casas and the sisters of the General Government were elected by the XXXI General Chapter of the Congregation on October 8, 2023. Following the celebration of the Provincial Chapters of the Adorers in January and February 2024, our Superior General and the General Government are scheduling these visits to get to know personally the countries of the Provinces and Delegation of the Congregation, the sisters living in the Adorers’ communities and apostolic works.

The Congregation of the Adorers is present in 24 countries on 4 continents (Europe, Africa, Asia and America), and is structured in 4 provinces (Europe-Africa, America, Kolkata and Mumbai) and one Delegation (Japan).

These visits are a wonderful opportunity to show first hand to the General Government of the Congregation the life and work of Adorers in the different parts of the world where Adorers are present.
