1st visit of Sister Pilar Casas, Superior General, to the Adorers in Togo

Sister Pilar Casas, Superior General of the Adorers, Handmaids of the Blessed Sacrament and of Charity, is making her 1st pastoral visit to Togo from April 5-17, 2024. She has been accompanied on this trip by Sr. Elisa Altadill, incharge of Formation in Africa.

Sister Pilar’s first visit of acquaintance

Pilar Casas was elected by the 31st General Chapter of the Congregation on 8 October 2023. After the celebration of the Provincial Chapters of the Adorers in January and February 2024, our Superior General begins visits to get to know personally the countries of the Provinces and Delegation of the Congregation, the sisters living in the Adorers’ communities and apostolic works.

The Congregation of the Adorers is present in 24 countries on 4 continents (Europe, Africa, Asia and America), and is structured in 4 provinces (Europe-Africa, America, Kolkata and Mumbai) and one Delegation (Japan).

These visits, therefore, are a wonderful opportunity to show Sr. Pilar Casas first of all the life and work of the Adorers in the different parts of the world where there is an Adorers’ presence.

Adorers in Togo

Togo, located in West Africa, is part of the Province of Europe-Africa and has 2 communities of Adorers, one in Lomé, the capital of the country, and the other in Cinkassé, on the border with Burkina Faso. Three sisters live in each of the communities respectively.

The community in Lomé welcomes young people from Africa who wish to know more deeply the Congregation, the charism and the mission of the Adorers. This is a first contact in which a process of getting to know each other and discerning a vocation as an Adorer Sister begins.

In terms of projects, there is a Foyer Micaela (Micaela Home) in Cinkassé, which has been running since 2009, and another in Lomé, which began in 2020. The sisters develop training and accompaniment programmes that promote the fundamental rights and training of women, especially young women, in order to empower them and open new paths considering the realities of the continent.
