The General Government of the Adorers is immersed in a visit of knowledge to the communities of the Province of America, a unique opportunity to deepen the reality of each community, to accompany the Adorers in their mission and to strengthen the bonds of fraternity that unite the entire Adorer Family in their transforming work.
With the desire to listen to and renew the Adorers’ charism and mission in each place, our Superior General, Sr. Pilar Casas, together with Sr. Rosaura Patiño, Vicar General, are embarking on this journey which began on September 25 and will end on December 11, 2024.
This visit is a gesture of closeness and accompaniment to the sisters, women and lay people who are part of the apostolic works in 9 countries of the American continent (Colombia, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Bolivia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Argentina). Through these meetings, the General Government reaffirms its commitment to the mission of liberating women in vulnerable situations, strengthening a support network that transcends borders and cultures.
The Province of America, which spans 10 countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Peru, Dominican Republic and Venezuela), stands out for its cultural, social and religious diversity. However, all the communities are united by the same purpose: to accompany and liberate women who have suffered sexual exploitation, human trafficking and other forms of violence.
Below, we share some of the valuable testimonies of the sisters who have already enjoyed the visit of the General Government, showing the profound mark it has left on each community.
Dominican Republic: A meeting of fraternity and hope
One of the first destinations was the Dominican Republic, where the communities of Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros welcomed the visit of Sister Pilar and Sister Rosaura with joy and gratitude. Sr. Mª Luisa, from Santo Domingo, shared her experience:
“We spent a few simple days of fraternity, enjoying them. Sister Pilar took a deep interest in our house, community and, above all, in the women whom we accompany in our project, visiting their homes. We were very grateful for the time we were able to share with them, with the women and with those who collaborate with our mission”.
This testimony reflects the spirit of support that characterizes these visits, the presence of the General Government is a concrete act of support and renewal for each community.
Cuba: A meeting full of enthusiasm
From Havana, Cuba, Sister Maite highlighted the simplicity and enthusiasm with which Sister Pilar and Sister Rosaura immersed themselves in the reality of the community and the women they accompany in their liberation process:
“It was a very moving meeting, we brought them something to share and we met a significant number of women who, on seeing us, came out with great joy to greet us. We went to the place where we work with them and so the sisters were able to get an idea of how we work and the setbacks we went through, of how we carry out, by the grace of God, this work with joy, simplicity and dedication”.
The visit to Cuba has served as a stimulus to encourage sharing together within the community, renewing the spirit of fraternity that characterises the Congregation.
Colombia: The mark of a close presence
In Colombia, where the Adorers have communities in Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Medellín, La Caro, Pereira and Manizales, the reception of the General Government was full of gratitude. Rosa Elvia, from Bogotá, shared her testimony, highlighting the impact of the visit on the Bogotá community, made up also of lay people, the work team, the women of the programme:
“Your presence, listening and words of encouragement leave a mark in our hearts. As a community, we experienced your closeness, fraternity, simplicity and affection. We feel very grateful for the passage of God through your presence in our home and in our community”.
This type of visit not only renews the spirit of the sisters, but also strengthens the bonds of collaboration between communities, lay people, work teams and the women who accompany the projects of our Social Work.
A journey that strengthens fraternity, Charism and Mission
The General Government’s journey through the communities of America is not just a physical journey; it is a profound encounter with the Adorers’ charism in action, an opportunity to weave bonds that unite hearts and strengthen the mission of Adoration and Liberation. Each visit reaffirms the commitment to social transformation and the building of a more just and caring world, especially for those who have had experiences of exploitation and violence.
As an Adorer Family, we walk together, renewed in faith, hope and fraternity. We remain committed to the legacy of our foundress, St. Maria Micaela, extending our hands and hearts to give every woman a new opportunity for life, dignity and hope.
